For clarification in TFA State Congressional Debate:
1. Items must be debated in the order posted on the tournament websites.
2. No item can be tabled until one or more speeches of debate have been completed (because that will result in items being debated out of the prescribed docket order).
3. Debate on an item means that at least one of the following has occurred: one speech, one cycle (authorship/sponsorship and a con speech) or 3 speeches on the same side before tabling or previous question can be moved.
4. Competitors will not receive more items than those posted to debate in any round of competition.
*Supplemental events 2017 are Prose and the Senate.
*Each school may enter one student in Prose and one student in the Senate without having to qualify any other students to the State Tournament. *Legislation submission is NO LONGER required (October, 2013).
*Should students in these two events not advance to elimination rounds, they remain ineligible to enter consolation events.
*Re-registration for consolation events 2017
(Impromptu, Poetry, Program Oral Interpretation (POI) & Informative Speaking) is available ONLY IF schools have PRE-reserved spots online through JOT registration, and have paid in full by the entry fees deadline following postings of prelim results of Supplemental Events.
*Participants must be eliminated from all main events to re-register for consolation events.
*Each school is allowed a maximum of 5 entries in each consolation event.
*Schools who have reserved entry spots, but do not use them for any reason (do not re-register or enter student names by the deadline after main event eliminations have been posted) will forfeit the original entry fee, which will go into the TFA Scholarship fund.
February 15 at 5:00 PM CST - Last day to check TFA website for accuracy of the IQT reports for all TFA State qualifying entries and submit any necessary corrections to the IQT Coordinator (Grant Hahn @ email@example.com).
February 24 at 5:00 PM CST - LAST DAY - All schools and entries must be registered on the Joy of Tournaments website.
March1 at 5:00 PM CST - ALL JUDGE PARADIGMS DUE entered on JOT.
March 1 - Payment for tournament entries and fees (may be personal check) must be received by Jason Warren, TFA Treasurer, .
March 1 at 5:00 PM CST - All original oratory and main event oral interpretation documentation must be submitted ONLINE to the TFA State registration page on the Joy of Tournaments website (sign in, click Registration, then Entry, then scroll down to submit by clicking on each event). *SEE CHANGES TO INTERP & ORATORY ONLINE SUBMISSION TITLE PAGES BELOW- THESE COVER PAGES MUST ACCOMPANY EACH SCRIPT/ORATORY UPON SUBMISSION..
